Last night, another baseball season began with the New York Mets defeating the defending World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals 6-1. But today is when the real action begins, opening day of the 2007 baseball season.
Typically, you will see the President of the United States throw out the first pitch. Bush, above, threw out the first pitch for the return of baseball to Washington, D.C. Last year, he went to Cincinnati - a week later - instead, sending Cheney to Washington (where he was met with a chorus of boos).
This year, Bush will again skip the festivities at the Nationals’ opener. It’s not hard to see why: the President is more unpopular than ever before - and he is directly ignoring the will of the people. In the most Democratic city in the United States, it’s not hard to imagine the reaction that Bush would get if he stepped out on the mound today.
Anyway, enjoy the games today. Baseball season is the best season of all.
